By day I'm a computer applications trainer - MS Office (especially Excel and Access), Visual Basic, Project Management. In the past worked in the travel industry, have freelanced as a professional writer and photographer, produced industrial training
videos, and worked as on-air talent in talk radio. Aspiring to return to media work after 20 years as a trainer to do voice talent, sound mixer and designer, and ultimately producer/director.

My mom swears I'm an artist, but I'm not. I'm a carpenter, and I work with tile too. Heavy framing as well as finish trim work. Make cabinets now and again, and I've done more than my share of roof work. Oh I've run a lot of pipe too, along with electric (fun combinations). But all that crap is just for money..

What I really love to do is race motorcycles. Superbikes in particular. Been fighting for checkered flags now for nineteen years. I write about it all as well - here: http://www.gotagteam.com/TalesFromTheGRIP/06_AFMround4.html

Putting those stories together is what brought me here, actually. First it was the writing, then came photography to help the stories along, which ultimately lead to video. Now I'm hoping to be able to pull it all together through videography. But holy mother is there more to this than I ever imagined. My head spins every night..

I'm learning that I do everything backwards in life - I even learn backwards. In fact that's how I ended up here, trying desperately to discover general knowledge buried deep inside these heaps of technical conversations amongst the giants.

Glad to meet you all!

NICE! I love those bikes, the speed is amazing.

I know what you mean about the learning backwards deal. I wrote my first visual basic program in 1999 and sold like 60 copies, 80,000+ free downloads , and I still don't even know what half the code means, LOL.

In this forum, finding a simple answer is sometimes...well, is not simple, lol...

I swear it takes me half an hour sometimes just to click "Submit New Thread" just because I know my questions are so juvenile. It's kind of like a homeowner approaching the counter at a busy plumbing supply place and asking "Um, I need one of those... well.... they kind of go up, and then they have a big round thing on top with a blue bottom?" Then the big dirty guy growls from behind a plume of dark, crusty cigarette smoke and says, "Head south on I-90 and try the place with the big orange sign out front that says Home Depot"

But every time I finally do hit it, I'm surprised how nice people are to me. Great place..

Corporate videographer/editor at the municipally owned power and gas utility. I'm the entire department. One sweet gig after 14 years in news.

I have no aspirations to shoot/edit/create any type of film production.
A few forays early on proved to be way to much work for the money.

In fact I just bought my first personal video cam 2 years ago.

I play guitar in a band. I also shoot low-budget commercials for a small cable company, but I've been getting them to expand their department over the past few years and the quality of the product we produce continues to increase.

I’m a VP and bookkeeper for my dad’s row-crop farm. We grow 1200 acres of onions, alfalfa seed, wheat, mint, corn, etc, but my job is pretty much part time. Besides that I teach voice and piano at a music store, occasionally play night hostess at a restaurant, sing in a Bluegrass band, and am just getting started with a band playing and singing the Blues—hoping that turns into a little cash down the road. Sometimes I actually make a little money with video along the way.

In short, I’m kind of a bum who probably should get a real job. :)

I'm a Mutimedia Specialist for wealth management company, I'm based out out of Antigua West Indies to overlook AV requirements for projects here in Antigua as well as Caribbean and central and south America. here in Antigua I get to look out for a Cricket stadium (with 2x50' LED HD Screens), 2 restaurants, several Banks (VTC), and "The Boss's " private dwellings (Including a 120' yacht)(with 285' one being built). So since I had to give up my recording studio back in the states, I have now picked up the video bug, to exercise my artistic and technical bones.

Departmental training officer/rangemaster/armorer/entry team leader for a medium sized Sheriff's Office. And whatever other hats they hang on me from day to day. The nice thing is that every day brings something new and different, so it's hard to get bored; bad thing is that it sometimes leaves little time for anything else. In that free time, I pursue various hobbies that either take too much time or too much money. *grin*

Assistant Division Commander for the Uniform Patrol Division at the same Sheriff's Office as Ed Wilson. He's my roommate. I outrank him, so he has to do as I say. You know, like "clean the house" or "cook me dinner"... stuff like that.

When I'm not working or telling Ed what to do, I enjoy photography and now videography.

I'm a PIG (Photo Instrumentation Guy) on a missile test range in Huntsville,Alabama. I'm an editor, photographer, videographer and a dangerous self taught electrician. We use a lot of digital high speed cameras which is way cool. I basically get to watch stuff blow up everyday.

I also own and run my own wedding photography and video business that keeps me tied up pretty much every weekend..

For my day job I create educational videos for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. It's a great job because I'm pretty much a one man band producing, shooting, and editing all the video that appears on the National Arts in Education website http://www.artsedge.kennedy-center.org/ . I meet a lot of cool people and I get to see a lot of performances.

Then on the weekends I grab my gear and shoot shorts. I've done several of the DV Challenges - which has been a great way to get off the couch. And it's inspired me to try to make things that are "festival worthy" though so far no festivals have taken anything.

But I still think, even if I reach the dream point where I'm a regular on the festival circuit and people will give me enough money that I can hire a crew rather than just recruit my untrained friends, I would keep my day job and do the shorts for fun. Because I love my day job and the shorts are a lot of fun. I think if I had the pressure of paying my mortgage off of that work it would take all the fun away. It's the same reason I'll periodically get a booth to sell my photos as art prints at craft fairs, but don't want to try to make a living as a photographer even if I could.
