Sorry about all the downconverting questions, I thought I would attack the overall questions with different approach questions.

Is it true that you can't downconvert over firewire from deck to laptop or camera to laptop?

If so, I was reading camera manual and trying to understand how to downconvert from camera to BR-HD50 deck using a firewire. Do I set the 1394 switch on the camera to HDV or DV? Do I set the deck IEEE 1394 toggle to HDV or DV? I am trying to go from an HDV tape to make a DV tape?
