I recored this off the tv.
Its from the ice road truckers special on The History Channel.

They have a camera mounted on the dash facing the driver.
My question, what camera is it? It looks like it has a focus ring on the front. Or zoom ring. They say its all filmed in High def. So, any ideas?

Here is the clip.

95% sure that is a sony A1-U camera, without
the audio/shotgun mic attachment in place.

Looks like maybe a wide angle lens added on in front?

My vote would be the A1U or an HC1 (VF hood looks more like the A1U) with a wide/fisheye on the front...

I think they are using HC1's or the like for some of the road footage. Saw an editorial quip about loving the new low price HDV cameras which can be used in a high risk way without too much worry about the cost. Movies could do the same in some of the stunts. With HV10's under $900, cheaper that the cost of just setting up a normal camera...

Yeah, I don't doubt that these little HDcams will be used the way 16mm crash cams were used.(Typically old gun cameras or elmo's) Strap them in/on the vehicle or under the horse, and hey, you might get a two or three second shot that is just PERFECT for cutting into the action sequence.
