Currently have Adobe Creative Suite Production Studio Premium (CS2) on my desktop. Want to get a laptop for capture and possible editing in the field.

but I don't recall ever hearing anything about them. (I like the idea of slightly ruggedized features for field work and transport).

I know some claim "ruggedization" is really a marketing ploy, but if it contributes to safer storage of footage, seems like it might be worth it.

Next is: Can't afford CS3 right now (particularly if I get any laptop); can I install the same CS2 (and Aspect HD) on both my laptop and desktop?

Anyone have experience with these laptops?

That model doesn't look too bad to me, but I'd recommend getting the Core2 chip at 2gHz, at least 1 gb of ram, and definitely opt for the 100gb 7200rpm hard drive.

One drawback of this system is that it does not have a dedicated graphics chip (nvidia or ati). This will put extra strain on your CPU, especially if you're doing lots of work in Adobe CS. To capture video, you'll probably have to pick up firewire card to put in the expansion slot. Also, that 100gb drive will fill up FAST. Between Windows XP and the CS 2 suite, any plugins and extra programs, you might only have 20 to 40 GB of space to capture. You'll need lots of space available if you're going to edit on it too. Or, you can pick up an external drive to solve that problem, but your setup will start to look like an electronic octopus. Personally, I think the 13=inch screen is way too small to do any intensive graphics or editing.

And one last thing- stay away from Windows Vista! Vista = bad. At least for now... Spend the extra money and get XP home or Pro.

Still shopping, and trying to keep the end price reasonable, but some options could easily drive it out of my current price range.

Thanks, too, for the warnings: I'm trying to avoid Vista, and certainly plan for the faster drive and max memory. Beyond that, I hope to be able to afford something to handle dual monitors for growth.
