as the HV10 has no s.video socket is there any adapters out there that will fit
the composite socket and give you s.video quality, sorry if this has been asked before

Yes there is such an adapter cable -- they can be found in the States so it shouldn't be too hard to locate them in the UK -- here's one:

There's not much of a quality difference anymore; it's difficult to detect any real difference in the image when switching between composite and S-video, but the adapters are available if you want them. Hope this helps,

I have just replaced my Sony PC110 with a Canon HV10 for doing the donkey
work, down loading footage on to my computer hence hooking vi the compsite
instead of S.Video and the picture does'nt look as clean

No, the composite output of your HV10 is doing what it says: output a composite signal. An adapter is not going to change that.

If you're looking for higher quality analog output, you need to use the component output. There are converters from component to RGB scart (easiest and cheapest way, if that's of any use for you) or more expensive component to SVideo converters. The ladder might be possible only with a special converter box, as far as I know.

Not as cheap as a simple cable but it will fit your needs for 480/576i output.
