View Full Version : Process for capturing downconverted HD footage?

I have about 40 hours of 24pA HDV footage shot on Sony V1Us. The final product will be a standard DVD and with only 1TB of hard disk space, storage is a concern and it seems the smart thing to do would be to capture at SD.

I'm curious as to how the best way to do this would be. I have a Sony M15U deck, so I should set it up for downconverting and capture that way? Or is there an alternate route? What are some of the best settings to do this? Will I still run into the 24pA pulldown removal problem that plagues FCP and V1Us? I want to avoid that.

Every comment and suggestion is appreciated.

Alec, Your HDV footage is 25Mbps if you downconvert to DV your injest would still be 25Mbps. So you don't really save any hard drive space by doing an off line or downconversion. I suggest importing everything in HDV and editing that way -unless your computer can't handle the resolution but if the only limitation is hard drive size, you should just downconvert your finished project.

Look for yourself, I can see the difference, can you?
But I have to tell you when I burned it on DVD I could't see any,
cheers!
