View Full Version : Photo Flashes ruining effects!

Hi gang,

In a little dilemma here and looking for some advice. I recently shot a wedding and was recording the toasts hand-held. There is some shakiness that I want to get rid of, and typically I can use the region stabilize tool on my Avid to fix that up for me - but unfortunately, people were shooting flash photography during the toasts and it is reeking havoc with the affect (i.e. every time it detects a flash, the affect goes nuts and doesn't work).

Any way to avoid this issue, or deal with it nicely (I would hate to manually go in and cut all the frames with flashes, as it would take hours!). Any advice would be appreciated.

Footage shot in NTSC 60/i. I am using Avid Xpress Pro v 5.6.4.

Thanks guys!
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I have no good news for you, but I can tell you that I've noticed the same thing sometimes when I use the same effect. Sometimes you can get lucky by adjusting the rectangle in the effect to cover a different area, but there are also times I couldn't fix it.

Really sucks...

Can't you edit that piece in slow motion instead of using the stabilize tool? It will take away some of the shaking, so that it doesn't look that bad.

I have had the same issue but then tried Avid Fx (or Boris) Motion Stablize and it does a fantastic job. Keep in mind it still has issues with the flash but atleast you can fix it very easly. I simply did the analyze and u can see where it tracks the shot and when the flash occurs you see a jump in the track spline/line and you can simply pull the line back to somewhere aproxamite. anyways works alot better and you can control the amount of zoom and some other things.
