After watching everyones 24p footage, I'm curious to find out what's happening with my own footage and why it looks so different. I have a short clip of my dogs that I captured using HDVSplit, then opened the file in Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0, added the title, then exported to Mpeg2. The original file (the captured file created by HDVSplit) also has that same interlace type of effect. It was recorded in 24p mode. Does removing the pulldown have anything to do with this? yes, removing pulldown will remedy this. Before pulldown it is in a 60i (interlaced) format. If you do not remove pull down you could use a deinterlacer filter, or view it on a TV, where you will not be able to see it.

I had a feeling someone would say that. The pulldown.exe method isn't working for me for some reason. When the file is exported, it won't play in VLC or Winamp, and when opened in Windows Media Player it stutters the whole way through. Has anyone had a similar problem using the standalone version of pulldown.exe?

Miguel, if you've produced a lossless format like Lagarith or Uncompressed, they're meant for editing not viewing. For viewing you should export to WMV/XViD/DivX or load your lossless into an editor and produce your desired format from there.

I exported to an uncompressed AVI format, dropped into my timeline in Premiere Elements 3.0, then exported again to .mov, .wmv, and mpeg2 and all formats still have the same rolling shutter. Maybe I'm missing something in my NLE program?

Miguel, if you post a sample after pulldown maybe we can figure it out. Or have you tried hv20pulldown.exe to produce WMV directly?

That first video I linked from megaupload was supposed to be after pulldown. I posted the details of that vid in the first post. I'm gonna try it again and post a link to the full version before exporting in Premiere to see if that will help.

There was no video playback when I ran dogs.mpg. Downloaded it twice and tried WMP and MPC. I wonder how different Premier encoded MPEG2?
