I'm not sure if this is the best forum for this question. We are currently beginning a project that will be mastered on MiniDV and DVCam and edited entirely on an Avid XDV 3.5. We need to deliver the edited masters with closed captioning which usually goes in the vertical interval. We are planning to transfer the edited MiniDV or DVCam masters to DigiBeta for close captioning, but I'm wondering if this can be achieved directly on the MiniDV masters. We are checking with the closed captioning center but I thought I might get a better set of answers here.
Thank you in advance.

I recently attended the Avid DNA tour in Dallas. I know that on the Adrenaline series, there is a metadata timeline that accepts closed captioning info... not sure about XpressPro due out soon. Might try the Avid forum for more details... www.avid.com

There are several programs on Mac that allow close captioning. I'm sure there must be some software on the PC to allow this with mini DV. Your limitation may be how well it integrates with AVID software.

I think technically the DV stream can hold closed captioning
information (I think I read this somewhere), but I highly doubt
any programs would exist to let you do this with DV. But who
knows.....
