How do you like the image quality?

How does it compare to other cameras you have used?

I wasn't sure about the real quality of DVCPRO HD until I shot video with this camera.

My shutter speed was not ideal for Magic Mu's fast movement for the 1080/24P shooting (overcranked 720/24P was okay), but I can see this cam is so much better quality than HVX200 (of course HVX200 is so useful for its own purpose), I had no problem with shooting in the dark, 1080 resolution is stunning, all of the controls are so prompt.

As I mentioned in the other thread, the bright range is not forgiven than XLH1 or XHG1, but the color on HPX555 is amazing. I wonder if HPX and HVX is more liner in the dynamic range than Canon HDV cams.

I shoot with HXP555 and HVX200, and keeping HV20 to do the shooting in between to make sure I don't miss anything (having a tape video camera is more reliable in times).

I think for what I do, providing video on web with HD resolution and use projctors to show movies, I'm shooting 24P most of the time and having overcranking function adds so much expressions and articulations.

I am about to buy an HPX500 and have been wanting to see footage! Thank you so much for posting some. Hopefully, I will be able to track down an HPX next week so I can post some as well!

You won't believe this.................... I showed Billy Jack your soccer-ball video and he went totally crazy! Started whining and shaking with excitement. after it was over, he sat next to the computer for the longest time. He looks like a slightly bigger version of the Jack in your video.

FWIW, somewhat like you, I tried HDV and didn't like the results for this sort of 'action video'. Just sold my HV20 and am actively looking for a HVX. Wish me luck.

You could shoot in 60i with HDV, capture with AIC, then conform it to 24p with cinematools then you can get good result, but with HVX, it is so much easier.

If it behaves like the HVX200, you should try "Black Press" gamma setting.
It compresses highlights in a much softer manner than "Cinelike D".

Dont forget though, with B Press, you have to close the iris by at least 1 stop to match Cinelike D exposure.

AND, you have to dial the detail sharpness (hor and vert) to -3 to match the 0 sharpness of Cinelike D.

I'm curious if the 500 behaves like the HVX200 in gamma/highlight.

I am very curious about the results.

You could test BPress with detail from -3 -2 and 0 to see what happens.

The HPX has more pixels so it should look smoother anyway.
