Vegas is extremely easy to navigate and learn but i came across some things that i dont know how to achieve. I decided to post them in one thread, i hope some of you will be able to suggest what i need to do or where to look:


1. Im curious how to make transitions such as a
- "flash" transitions when the screen is white for a moment then comes back to normal. Its pretty common in music videos etc.

- Film tape effect when red, yellow is seen as if the tape was burned or something. not sure how to call it: it can be seen here:

2. How to apply a sort of dirt of desired gradient to a footage. I would like my clip to have some sort of colors palette (chose by me) floating beneath/over the footage. Sorry for such an unprofessional way to describe it but im clueless.

Just use the Flash transition.
That is not dirt, but a color overlay. Fiddle with the Noise Texture in the media generator tab, and change its compositing mode to something like Dodge (just experiment). Honestly, this kind of thing is better done in an application like After Effects.

I woyld REALLY like to know how to do that dirty, tape like transition too.
I see it very often in videos and documentaries and im guessing someone did such transition for vegas or knows how to do it.

You can use Magic Bullet or After effects to create such look!!

how exactly? i have magic bullet and a friend of mine has AE. |Please be more exact!

I can get a decent copy of this by adding the lava noise texture under
the video track and then adjusting the frequency sliders to get that orange red shape.
Then add a composite level envelope to the video track above and add points to it set on hold. pretty close effect. can also add keyframed film effects for that portion of the flash. Definately not the easy way.

Hi all
There's a DVD out called Film Clutter or something like that, which consists of the burnt ends (head and tail), sprocket marks, scratches and the like, produced using real film.
You just overlay one of those clips and superimpose on your footage. Very simple and effective.

if you go to the artbeats website or search for film clutter you can check out samples to give you an idea of what your generated media should
look like and how it should move.

thanks for all the responses. ill try some tricks and if its too hard ill buy the dvd, it looks like its worth the buck.
