View Full Version : Deeper thoughts on the next DVC
Dylan Couper June 17th, 2007, 10:13 AM Iffff we were to do a 72 hour DV Challenge, how many people would sign up?
I'd like to do one, but if there aren't enough people who are seriously interested, we could make it a "mini-challenge", maybe just 6 of us.
On the other hand, if everyone is itching to go on the full challenge, I could put one together to start at the end of July.
Thoughts?
Fredrik-Larsson June 17th, 2007, 02:44 PM I can't do it the 27-28-29th of july. Otherwise I am ready to participate. :)
Chris Barcellos June 17th, 2007, 02:57 PM I'm 43 hours into a 48 hour film festival. Sure wish we had another 24... But I would be up for it....
Kris Holodak June 17th, 2007, 03:43 PM I'll be up for it however it plays out.
Lorinda Norton June 17th, 2007, 07:43 PM I'd sure try a 72 hour challenge, partly because it sounds like lots of fun and partly because I would have to pass on a full challenge at the end of July.
Jeff Hendricks June 18th, 2007, 09:18 AM i'd do it...................
Jonathan Jones June 18th, 2007, 12:53 PM i'd do it...................
Same here. I'd be in.
-J.
Jonathan Jones June 18th, 2007, 03:48 PM Dylan,
If you are seriously considering making the next one a 72-hour bit, why not also consider upping the ante. Turn the next one into a "72-hour DVC Extreme".
Keep all the regular pertinent rules for the DVC.
Implement a 72-hour limit.
Impose the inclusion of a specific item or prop (specified at start time)
Impose the inclusion of a specific line of dialogue (specified at start time)
Allow for flexibility in the content run-time -(between 2 and 5 minutes)
-------------------
I wouldn't advise this structure for the standard DVCs, but one annual 'Extreme' version sounds like a lot of fun. I'd be in.
-Jon
Mugurel Dragusin June 19th, 2007, 01:18 AM I'd be in as well :)
Ken Wozniak June 19th, 2007, 03:49 PM You guys are twisting my arm...
Of course, it all depends on when the contest is scheduled.
James Huenergardt June 19th, 2007, 11:23 PM It all depends on the weekend.
With my job, I'm on call every other week starting 8am Tues - 8am Tues.
If it lines up with a weekend I have off, that works for me. I'd sign up.
Jim
Dick Mays June 20th, 2007, 11:42 AM I can do it the weekend of the July 14th
I can't do it the weekend of July 21st.
I can do it the weekend of July 28th.
I can't do it the weekend of August 4th.
(This is what happens when your life falls apart and all that, and every other weekend becomes visitation...)
Daniel Kohl June 20th, 2007, 04:05 PM I would be in ... but I'm not afraid of the wall of shame - I've been there.
I would love to try and do another DVC.
Jeff Sayre June 21st, 2007, 07:48 AM Dylan-
I'm ready to get back into the DVC and a 72-hour challenge seems right. After all, the time limit will keep me away from doing VFX work, so I might actually get some sleep during those three days.
If you're planning for the end of July, I should be able to do it. If it is in August, I'll be out of town.
----
Ken-
I see you are from South Bend! Welcome to the DVi.
Ken Wozniak June 22nd, 2007, 08:55 AM Thanks for the welcome, Jeff. I'm afraid I'm a South Bend lifer.
Go, IRISH!
Andrew Paul June 22nd, 2007, 09:33 AM I am in ...
Gabriel Yeager June 22nd, 2007, 09:55 AM As you may have noticed, I am never good at completing these things...
But I would give this one a shot if I have some spare time..
So yes, I am in. But you might not get to see anything!
~Gabriel
Andrew Hood June 22nd, 2007, 11:07 AM It's not called a challenge for nothing. If we get 3 weeks, we waste the first 2 1/2 anyway. Might level playing the field just a bit. I'm up for it - schedule permitting.
Andrew Paul June 24th, 2007, 05:32 AM Hey Dylan, any chance of you commiting to a date so we can plan for it .
Justin Tomchuk June 25th, 2007, 06:20 PM Now that summer is here I would be able to enter again. Depends if I'm working or not though.
Jasmine Marie Adams June 25th, 2007, 08:59 PM I'd like my first contest to be a regular one, but what the hell, as long as I'm not working.
Josef Heks June 28th, 2007, 04:49 AM 72 hour EXTREME challenge sounds awesome (it adds a level of difficulty, while also stopping ppl from cheating, tho Im sure no-one would do that ;) )
But could it be before the end of July? I finish hols by August and couldnt compete otherwise..
Bryan Wilkat July 3rd, 2007, 02:29 PM out of 72 hours i work 24 and sleep 24 which leaves me plenty of time to put something together....i think...?
whatever, i'd be in.
make it happen!
Dylan Couper July 3rd, 2007, 08:52 PM Hey guys, back from a trip. I'll be putting together the dates shortly.
D
Dylan Couper July 10th, 2007, 04:16 PM The dates will likely be Thurs August 2nd to Sunday August 12th. I'll just need to confirm a few things, and will post the Sign Up thread shortly.
Kris Holodak July 10th, 2007, 08:26 PM Just yesterday I made plans to go up to my brother's house from the 3rd to the 7th to make a movie with my nephews and niece. I told them they needed to come up with a story idea, but I bet they won't have done by the time I get there. I wonder if I can talk them into doing one on whatever this round's theme ends up being.

Of course you can... you are bigger and can beat them up!
