Has anyone here successfully removed, flipped and remounted their viewfinder eyepiece?

Would you mind posting some fairly detailed instructions (or perhaps a photograph or two?)

I'l try to be as graphic as possible with my words, so here goes.

You take the VF unit and you see the ring that you twist to loosen and tighten the extension tubes?

Ok, loosen it all the way and extend the vf eyepice all the way, it will stop cause theres a couple of plastic ears at the end so it wont fall off.

Now look closely at the VF where there is the thread where the lock ring you loosened came from. You will see a seam of the two plastic pieces join together. if you put the the VF unit on the table this seam runs horizontally, unless you rotataded it.

Now carefuly split this seam by inserting your nail and split them apart slowly, you don't want to split them all the way but just about 3-5mm apart so you can pull the extension tube's plastic "ear" stoppers through. These ears also act as a guide through a notch to prevent the vf from rotating in its holder.

Once you've pulled the tube out, (careful because this is connected by a ribbon wire that will fold out accordion style,) turn it 180 degrees and put it back in by splitting the seam again.

tighten the lock ring and your good to go.

is the purpous of doing this simply for those with 35mm adapters that are trying to flip the image, what would be thought of upside down but now actually makes it rite side up ??

or is there some other benifit to doing this??

Yes, the purpose is to view an upsidesown image produced when attaching a lens adapter. The newer JVC models, ( i think to hd200 ) has a flipping feature.

Unfortunately our HD100s doesnt have this.

Works perfect on my pair of HD100's.

BTW, there is a little screw in the corner of the VF, just under the sticker, use a "glass repair screwdriver" to remove the screw and you'll be able to separate the two halves without prying. Put the screw back without over-tightening.
Yes, this is quite an easy and trivial solution to the reverse problem. Thank you Ted for providing even more life to our "aging" HD100 :)

What lens configuration mandates this modification?

Using the HZ CA13 16mm lens adapter for example on the HD100. And other 35 mm lens adapters out there such as the PS Technik new mini35.
