Just wondering what every thinks their must have have accessories are for this camera? Doesn't matter the reason you use this camera just want to hear everyones opinion.

A couple two or three extra batteries, the DM-50 microphone, the VL-3 video light, and the WD-H43 wide angle adapter. Also the Canon CB-2LT batt charger, and a decent soft case to hold the entire kit plus tapes. Those are my top choices.

living in Santa Cruz, I'd get a uv filter to protect the lens and the auto lens cap from the sea spray and sand

Definitely a hood and/or UV filter mainly to stop reflections from the polished ring surrounding the lens barrel. Outdoors, depending on the angle of sunlight the reflection is very distracting basically renders comissioned footage useless.

Chris, isnt the NB-2LH battery lower capacity than the BP-213? I was reading on the B&H site and its not only cheaper but shows lower mah.

Just wondering because I purchased 2 of the BP-213 =(

THe canon wide angle lens(mine is on back order with b&h for who knows how long), rode video mic is a must. and if you take far away shots a telephoto lens. extra batteries.

The bigger battery is a 2L14 - a couple of those...

a wide angle lens

a mini SD stick so you can get the readout of camera settings and stills if you want

some form of stabilizer - with this cam you need something, big time - I'm OK with my flash bracket rig, as long as not zoomed too much - tripod if you don't mind static shots.

External mic is another must have after listening to the internal ones...

if shooting a lot of super low light footage, a light is a good idea, but this cam can do amazingly well in low light already

Given the OIS, I'd forget the telephoto offhand unless you're tripod mounted - the OIS is barely able to deal with the internal zoom level

Didn't mean to bring this post out from the dead, but I am going to be buying some stuff today. Some people mentioned a UV Filter for the camera, any particular one or anything that fits will do?

Try to get a coated uv and not just a plain glass type.

For general hand held holiday shooting the optional WS20 hand strap is a must, at least for me, there are zillions of steps in Greece. Also I use the HAMA 43mm lens hood, and an AT822 mics pop filter fitted over the cam mic.

And I chanced upon one of those small table tripods with bendable legs, great for stable very low angle shots.

Sorry Saul, no I haven't at present. Meanwhile here's the large filter, there's an opening on the other side for the AT mic. That opening fits over the HV20s cam mic. and I fit a tight elastic band around the filter and cam to hold it in place.
You can scissor the filters opening to better fit the curve of the cams body to not have any air gaps, any at all even pin holes and you'll hear wind. It works by having the filters interior hole right over the mic. By the time 'average' wind gets in there it's stopped..... very high winds I go indoors.

This is a large filter and you gotta hold it with some care to stop hand noise. It doesn't look good at all, I don't care, any wind destroys the shoot for me. I use it all the time outdoors.

Buy the legs and the head separately.

I have the Videomate 607. Works well with short focal distance, but when you go telephoto, it is very hard, at least for me, to initiate the movement. It sort of resists and then bam! gives way, so I have a jerky start. If I untighten it, it just gets too light and I cannot move it smoothly AFTER I initiate the movement.

This either happens because of my non-professional hands, or this head indeed is not the best. Don't get me wrong, for $70-80 this tripod is pretty good, but not as good as I would like it to be. Again, I am not a pro, and likely I am doing something wrong. Oh, and while this head can be bought separately, you cannot remove it from Velbon 607.
