Its a very very common effect in wedding videos, but I don't know how its done.
It seems to make the whites glow a heavenly non-offensive glow, especially so in direct sunlight and shots of the bride in her white dress. How is it accomplished in post?

I use a free one. You can do a Google search for TOO BIG TOO SOON.

For Final Cut Pro

You can do it in After Effects also.The program has already glow effects in it.

Another trick for glowing/soft focus effect, is the following.

Make two layers with the same footage.
Blur the lower layer by whatever percentage you like.

Lower the top layer's opacity by whatever percentage you like.

Voila !!!

I may have to try after effects...I use all adobe stuff. Someone mentioned bumping up the whites in another thread...is that with levels?

Also is there a way to make a title (text) glow in Premiere? I have a complex set up already to reveal the text so I don`t want to rebuild it in AE. I want it to reveal and glow

You can do that, but i'm not sure it's the effect you want.

Just by bumping up the whites does not give you the soft glow i understand you are looking for.

However you can try that, in combination whith the method i mentioned in my previous post.

i`m getting it slowly...is there a way i can use 'alpha glow' to my advantage? It doesn't seem to do anything when applied...but its setup screen looks good....

The Alpha Glow effect adds color around the edges of a masked alpha channel.

this is not what you want.

IMO, 'Glow Effect' in AE is fantastic (for colours, or for whites, you make the choice), and also the 'white diffusion' aspect of Magic Bullet (or another free plugin if you don't have that)

There is a nice plug in called "Luce" that sends out light beams from text. Works with Adobe Premiere and Premiere Elements. And it's free! It's available at the following link.

One method I tried is have two layers of the text (duplicate the first one if it's animated, etc.). On the lower layer text just add a simple gaussian blur to it and adjust as needed.

go grab a Trapcode plugin called Shine.. its for AE
55mm is also a good one.. i use it for Photoshop, but its also AE compatible..

its better than Vegas glow (even though Vegas glow is one of the best on the planet) and any other glow filter out there, but u CAN also do this without any special filters.. using the compositing method explained in the above post, BUT mess with opacities and liminance levels while ur at it..

Im fine with Glow filters Richard, its the "soft focus" filters which piss me off.. sorry couldnt resist..

I think the Final Cut plugins Douglas meant to refer to were "Too Much Too Soon". You can get them at http://mattias.nu/plugins/

The Final Cut plugin I've used for something similar to the "white glow" effect is Silk & Fog available for free at http://www.chv-plugins.com/ (click on the downloads link, and then scroll down through the FxScript plugins section). That Silk & Fog filter in Silk mode does something very similar to what I think you're wanting. It won't help in Premiere but at least we have a point of reference for how to do this ;-)
