Hi
A question about the external microphone mount on the XH-A1. Is it possible to remove it from the camera or is it a part of the handle and impossible to remove?
Regards,
/Bo

Have a closer look. 2 screws, near jewelers tool size.

Yep. Just be carefull with removing the screws. Don't use a screwdriver which is too big for them. Use a No. 0 or No. 00 in size

Hi
Thanks for the fast answers! I don't yet own an XH-A1, but sometime in the future I hopefully will. As I probably will se it mostly with the built in microphone I don't find any reason to have the mic mount on the camera all the time.
Regards,
/Bo

...and stick the whole lot in a clear ziploc bag and keep with the rest of the camera stuff you're not using.

Why couldn't Canon put a drop of black paint under the mic holder :) It's metal, or plastic, or something else, but it's a white spot on otherwise perfectly black camera. I removed it and ended up putting it back. Maybe I'll remove it again. I am using shotgun mics, but they are mounted on the flash holder: the mics are just too small in diameter for the mic holder.

Black magic marker to cover the white spot?
Several threads have noted a variety of solutions to mounting a smaller diameter mic in the holder.

For what it's worth, the top mount also places the mic a little farther (higher) from the tape compartment and the lens, so less noise from the motors are picked up (not that the noise has been THE problem).
