Hi all,

I was looking at my Rode NTG-2 and the male XLR pins are at three different heights. Comparing it to my other mics, the tallest pin is normal and the other two are much shorter. I'm wondering if I need to send this in for service? It seems to be working fine.

It's normal. No worries.

As Jarrod said. The long pin is pin 1 - Rode, and some other manufacturers as well, does this so the ground connection makes contact first to minimize thumps and hums if you plug into a live input and also to minimize the chance of damage to the mic if you inadvertently plug/unplug while phantom power is on.

Jarrod/Steve, this makes perfect sense. Thanks for the timely replies.

Thanks guys
I wondered this too with my NTG2... wasn't sure if it was poor quality control or not... but as Michael says works just fine and produces excellent audio.. so I never worried.

cheers
