I was just wondering what, if anything, people use to create those sparkling eyelights for their actors. I've heard of a few different techniques, but I'm always looking for new ideas.

One idea I have that I'd like to try, is to find a good cheap clip light with a bendable arm, like you would use for reading at night, and either attach that to the camera or some other object, so that no noticable light is added to their face, but the highlights pick up in the gloss of their eyes. Any thoughts?

I found this great lamp that's got a clamp and gooseneck. I find that it, with a low wattage bare bulb, clamped to my tripod or something else nearby, makes a good eyelight.

that sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. Do you remember where you found it?

8th Ave Lighting, 37th and 8th Ave in New York. A little out of the way for you. However, I suggest going into the heart of Chicago (I've never been so I'm winging it from here on in) and finding a lighting store (any sort of place that advertises DJ lights, strobes, sirens, etc, in the window) and go in. If you look hard enough, you'll find something like what I mentioned. These types of places have EVERYTHING, lighting-wise (the one I went to even has fake fresnel-type fixtures).
