just reiceved my HV10 basicly for downloading footage from my XLH1 onto my computer, have just noticed that the s-video socket is missing on this camera

I suppose that its so small something at to go and hard to beleve that HDV is possible on this cam

There's component, and composite spots... I thought there was something like a mini-svideo either way

looking on my none HDV telly there does not seem to be any differance and the compsite looks very good, It will be interesting to see what kind of picture this little cam produces

No SVideo out on the HV10/HV20. Component, composite and (HV20) HDMI only.
(well, if you can use firewire for display that works too.)

A bummer really since I lose my "easy edit->DVD" method of dumping to my DVD recorder via analog Svideo in/out. (my panasonics don't have firewire input either, bummer.)

The composite cable, looks, well, like composite (color crawl etc)
Just not enough size for that many big plug ports :)

You can get a composite to s-video adapter, I have one... ran me like $20 :( but it works...

just another thing, the camera wont charge the battery, the charger works powering the camera from the mains, but the little led light does not light when the battery is in place

could this mean the battery is duff or is it a camera fault, having trouble contacting Canon rapairs

how much for a charger and were is the best place to get a battery

Do you have the camera on? It won't charge while on.
Turn it off, and wait for the light to start blinking to signify charge status.
It will blink slowly/periodically at first (to show mostly empty), then 2 blinks together/pause, then 3 fast together/pause, etc.- when nearly charged will be I think 4 blinks etc...
When fully charged, THEN it will show constant steady red light.

no the camera is turned of but nothing no light blinking, but as i said before the power cable powers the camera so i would think eitheir the battery is duff or the on board charger does not work,

Anyway i have ordered a bigger battery + and a charger and if the battery does not charge on camera then i know were the prob is

just to let you all know it looks like the charger on the cam is faulty, got a charger and a bigger battery today and it charged the small batt no probs

so it looks like the cams charger is not working! anyway i can live with that

Are you using Canon batteries?

There is a reason for this question because some of the non-Canon batteries move those little contact pins backwards. One of the pins is for charging the battery. Make sure ALL the pins are even. Bottom dollar that one of the pins are out of alignment.

Yes the one that came with the cam is of course a canon, but i just bought a none canon one

neither battery will charge on cam but both do on a seperate charger

as for the pins are those at the front of the battery compartment if so they look ok

Yes....you will see the contacts. If one is slightly off, that particular contact will prevent the battery from charging on the camera. The non-Canon batteries have a tiny metal clasp contact that moves the pins ever so slightly. I know from experience.

An external charger is the best way to go.
