View Full Version : First car shows with the HV20
Duane Steiner May 29th, 2007, 08:33 PM I just got my HV20 two weeks ago and love it. Very easy to use and it produces great video. I tape car shows and here are the first two car shows that I taped with it. Everything was on Auto, but have to start trying the manual options.

Dave Blackhurst May 29th, 2007, 09:50 PM Hi Duane -
notice a lot if interlace artifacting/jaggies in the 5/27 clip - the 5/20 one was clean - some difference in the processing? Or was I not paying attention as much the first clip?
Looks sweet, how do you feel about the reds - look ever so slightly orange-y.
I'm still fiddling with the color on my HV20, somehow feel like the HC7 is a bit more true - reds and purples (and the occaisional green) seem to be ever so slightly "off" in the 20, although they look very good. There's so many adjustments in camera though, I suspect it can be dialed in.

Have to go back and look at the videos to take a look at the artifacts. Could be the encoding to DivX.
Had to tell so far on the reds. The lighting was mixed sun/clouds and I had the camera on Auto. Next time I will set the WB on manual. Also the shades of red, and other colors, vary so much on these cars it is hard to get any sort of standard. Also if in the manual mode aren't there settings that can be adjusted to help colors?
Dave Blackhurst May 30th, 2007, 10:44 AM Hi Bruno -
Only thing is I see the pulsing red problem when I use the vivid setting. Reds look "better", but bright pure reds are "too" hot and "dance"... not a solution... rather a different problem.
I've been experimenting with the "neutral" setting, but when I compare to the color output from my HC7, there's something a bit lacking in reds and purples. Not a "big" deal, but frustrating nonetheless. I'm thinking perhaps it's a WB issue, since I notice it more in "daylight" type conditions - and the Canon has more WB presets to fiddle with.

Color is always tricky, and red can be the worst - the HC1 got panned for strange reds... I've not had the problem with that cam, but many reported it.
I know reds are lots of fun to deal with (done some paint in my day), but it seemed like some of those cars looked orange when I suspect they were supposed to be red - one vintage 'vette in particular seemed a bit off - don't remember that car in orange and white... maybe a custom restoration?
