Bill Hamell May 28th, 2007, 10:39 AM Sergiu,
Great job! You have me wanting to build a completely new jib. :-)
What are the dimensions (length, width and thicknesses) of the square tube that you used?
Is it all aluminum tube, alternatively a mix of Aluminum and steel tube?
I like the double square tube arrangement on the pivot section.
Had you thought of using a rectangular section there?
If so, why did you go with two square tubes?
Bill
Sergiu Pavel May 28th, 2007, 05:09 PM The dimensions for square tubes are :
60x60x4
50x50x4
40x40x4
All tubes are from aluminium . Others parts like "U" from the pivot point or camera plate are from steel for a strong durability
I used 2 square tubes instead of 1 rectangular becouse boom arm and counterweight arm are slideing in thoses 2 60x60x4 tubes for a minimum lenght when the crane is transported .
Bill Hamell May 28th, 2007, 05:45 PM Sergiu,
Thank you, I am putting together a shopping list now. ;-)
What were the lengths of the tubes I'm guessing around a meter and a half?
Bill
Sergiu Pavel May 28th, 2007, 05:51 PM Dont forget the beer in your shopping list :)
If you have other question I'm glad answering you !
Bill Hamell May 28th, 2007, 06:41 PM No beer ;-( I'm a rummy! :-) gotta have my Myers
What were the lengths of the tubes I'm guessing around a meter and a half?
Bill
Liam Carlin May 28th, 2007, 06:45 PM Nice man! liking the look of this! :)
Sergiu Pavel May 29th, 2007, 02:26 AM Correct. The lengths of the bars are :
1500 mm for the 60x60x4 bar
1550 mm for the 50x50x4 bar
1600 mm for the 40x40x4 bar
The extra length between bars is for safety reasons where the bars are united .
Bill Hamell May 29th, 2007, 03:18 PM Damn, I have a good eye and it works in inch and metric!! LOL
Thank agin for your help.
Bill

Dale Guthormsen June 25th, 2007, 10:29 PM Sergiu,
Nice bit of work. I checked out your site and it is pretty impressive and I like what you can do with it!!
I was wondering, what the bill for the materials and motor would come to when you are finished??
After seeing this i might cancel my boat building project for awhile to build a crane like this!!
Sean Seah June 26th, 2007, 07:04 AM oops.. I think its banned in China somehow. I will have to wait till I get home then. Cant wait to see the good work! Planning on building one real soon too..
Sergiu Pavel June 26th, 2007, 07:27 AM The motorized head cost me aprox 2'200 $ ( it's a cameraturret PT20 ) with shipping and taxes , the tripod ( Cartoni ) - 700 $ and the rest of materials aprox 700 $ .
Hope this help you decide what you what to build :) !
I will post soon another video with the creane on a music concert .
Sean Seah July 3rd, 2007, 10:04 AM Hi Sergiu, that is one nice looking crane. I have a few questions that I hope u can help me with :)
1. How are the bearings done for the pivot point? Are they fitted onto the bracket?
2. I noticed a rotating interface between the tripod and the braket that holds the crane itself. Did u machine that with some kinda bearings below as well?
I m having headaces with the bearings now.. dun know how to complete that part of the design.. hopw u can give me some photos if possible. Thanks!
Sergiu Pavel January 6th, 2008, 01:46 PM Link updated and working again.
Andrew McMillan February 13th, 2008, 05:28 PM What can you tell me about the performance of the head? would you be comfortable using that is a profesional envirment.
I have been lokking at the Jimmy jib lite, but I don't have that kind of cash. I need that over the crowd concert shot.
Sergiu Pavel February 13th, 2008, 05:32 PM The head perform very well. No problems until now. You need to practice a little bit to become comfortable with the joystick. I usually operate this crane alone and using in professional environment ( tv and film work, events and stage concerts ).
Andrew McMillan February 13th, 2008, 08:12 PM how much camera can that thing hold?
Sergiu Pavel February 14th, 2008, 12:16 AM about 10-11 kg
