Angie's a guy.

It's from the movie "Marty" with Ernest Borgnine. Watch it and you'll see what I'm talking about.

There is 1 vending machine to every 23 people in Japan. They generate an annual income of around 58,000,000,000 USD.
They work extremely efficiently and reliably and they are everywhere. They sell every imaginable product. However the most popular sell soft drinks. Machines that sell adult literature are to be found in certain areas but they are few and far between!

This video (my second attempt since migrating to MC about 2 months ago) shows a few of the more unusually placed machines.

On the right side of my site's entry page are a thumbnail and 2 buttons.
The "L" button is linked to the Higher Definition version and the "S" button to the smaller, low-definition video.
The clips are encoded for Flash.
I am always open to constructive criticism........

Douglas

No criticism here, so I hope you’re also open to a little praise. This is one of the more entertaining videos I’ve seen on the board. I laughed and laughed at your comments—very well-written and well-placed within your video! You gave me a light-hearted and interesting glimpse of Japan that made me quite glad I took the time to watch.

Thanks for making my day brighter, Douglas. I love your sense of humor and look forward to more videos from you!

Hello,

This is my first time posting in this section so please be gentle.

I shot this with an HV20 (alas, with the camera mic) and edited with Edius. This is the first time I've used leading audio edits and I think it worked well. There is one 'regular' cut that I think worked well--I'm curious if anybody can spot it. I'm not a big fan of music in my train videos; I'd rather let the trains do the talking.

This vimeo version plays jumpy on my computer--I'm curious if its just my computer or something in the compression. I exported it as h.264 as per vimeo's instructions.

Its about 11:30 long so I hope it holds your interest throughout. Enjoy!

That's some nice train footage. Did you shoot it in 24 or 30F or in 60i?

There were only one or two spots where it was slightly jumpy playing on my computer.

Looking at this footage, it reminded me of stock footage. Are you familiar with www.revostock.com ? I think you could sell some of your footage there if you wanted to.

Thanks!

60i. I steadfastly hold to the notion that we should be using MORE fps not less. Although I have been grudgingly playing with 24 because I need more light input for what I'm working on now.

Ya really think they'd buy footage from an HV20?

And I found it played a bit jumpy too - but I was using any old PowerBook G4.

Keep it up. We consider 20 wagons a long train here.

http://vimeo.com/861424

I kept trying to count the coal wagons, but I got to about 30 twice and you cut!!

Some very nice shots - I particularly like the one at exactly 10 mins in where the train runs along the bottom of the screen. I am not sure however that we should be watching you finish a shot, point the camera towards the ground and start to return to the car (5' 55"), or polish the lens because it's wet (9' 08"). Now this may be either because I'm jealous that you are younger and more handsome than me or because your footage would benefit from just a teeny bit more editing - you decide.

Sorry, but even I think that an entire train of the same thing is too much. There were probably about 60 cars. And even then, they need to split the train in two in the Kenai mountains.

I am not sure however that we should be watching you finish a shot, point the camera towards the ground and start to return to the car (5' 55"), or polish the lens because it's wet (9' 08").

I liked the 'return to car' shot when I was editing. Now, I think I agree with you. I still like the 'wipe the lens' to bring a little more 'flavor of the day' (read--nasty). I also like it because it is unexpected.

And its funny, I tried the same trick you mentioned at 10 minutes earlier at 6' and, neither one is perfect, I liked the first one better.

Thanks for your comments and I'd like to thank everyone for watching!

Hey all, I believe this is one of the very few posts I have put up on this site. Well I have a music video that I really pushed myself on. It is by no means perfect. As a matter of fact I had tons of glitches with Final Cut Studio 2 because I borrowed it from a friend, and couldn't update it. OMG the bugs! I finally purchaed it and hope the next project will be better. Also this is the first time working with Final Cut Studio 2, and on a mac, I was a PC guy. So I had plenty of hurdles to over come to get this far.

But I'd really like to hear some feed back, even feedback of things you didn't like.

Trust me when I say this is not perfect. Even my part of the concept for the video is flawed. I messed up the storyline in the second verse, which really messes up the flow overall. But again please don't hold yourself back. Some constructive criticism would be really appreciated. Cant trust your family to be that honest...lol.

Thanks for letting me know I could make you laugh, Linda.

I have always found it a rewarding challenge to try and find the interesting and amusing side to everyday things - and capture it on video.

Japan has so many everyday things that are just begging to be filmed.

If you have time look deeper into my site under "Gallery"..... you will find quite a lot of interesting and sometimes amusing stuff.

Douglas!

Great first name by the way! :)

Lorinda is always so nice she can't criticize, me on the other hand...

Not a criticism but a little critic. The video was very informative and entertaining! It actually kept my interest. The ending VFX were good could have been better if this were a big budget film production! The end left me a little hanging, maybe a "thank you for watching" or ending graphic would be a good way to finish your story. But other than that I liked it very much! Great job.

Yes! I was in 2 minds about the ending.
Maybe my Monty Python youth surfaced!
However I have actually made a 2nd version without the explosions.
I am just waiting to see what the reaction is going to be over the next week or so before deciding which version I will leave on the site.

I thought the video was ok, but the music was annoying. That trumpet sound was like a whining insect, and the dynamics of the loop are noticeably different... the volume of the first beat is significantly louder in a distracting way.
Disclaimer: just my opinion of course.

Nice performances and you caught them nicely in a way that reflects a night out getting hammered watching some 'unknowns' perform in a dark corner of a dodgy bar.

It appeared you are trying to tell a story through the music, I also found the audio loop difficult to listen to, it made the entire clip hard to follow. In my amateur opinion, the visual half of your video exceeded the quality of your audio half.
The audio is an integral part of a music video.
I listen to rap music, it is not the style I dislike, it is the poor mix and repetitious background loop

Hmmm...I rendered the audio at the best quality I can. Youtube really gets to me that way, there is no way to make it perfect.

I thought it was pretty good.

I kept thinking "he's just holding that dart in his neck the whole time".
HA!

I would work on lighting and some of the effects used. The muzzle flares on the guns looked like pictures rather than effects created with a particle system. Motion may not have the same depth of control as After Effects, but you can still pull off some impressive particle effects with it.

The personal data thingy looked pretty good I thought.

Overall it was not a bad little video. Didn't care for the music, but it didn't sway my opinion of the overall production.

Shot with a Canon XL2, ProAm crane, 3pc light kit, Letus 35 adapter, Sennheiser shotgun mic and Davis and Sanford Steadystick. Edited with FCP. Color and post effects done with Magic Bullet look suite. Music composed with Garage Band. Graphics done with Motion, FCP and CS2.

Took about four minutes to write, two days to plan, three hours to shoot and another three to edit. The deadline is the 27th though, so I had to crank it out.

Enjoy and tell me what you think!

Just a video from a dvinfo member.
I am not very proud of what happened, but I had to film it.
done with Sony HVR-A1u, shutter 1/30th,widw angle 0737y, edited in imovie.
I had to take out the Xlr unit so the camera look more amateur, because I saw a tv crew from TQS had there camera thrown on the street(panasonic aj-hpx2000).And the last riot in 93 the first thing people did was burn the tv truck. This year no Satellite truck but hundreds of cellular.

Sadly, yes. I guess it's pent up anger from being so polite all the time :-)

The police claim there are organized gangs that take advantage of the post game celebration to loot and vandalize. Sounds a bit fishy to me.

Here are a few things that iv finished editing recently. Shot them both quite a while ago but only recently had enough time to get stuck in with the edit.

Firstly a Skateboard piece, shot a while ago in a warehouse in Guildford...

Shot with my friend Anthont Bristol.

Shot on the Sony Z1's with no adapter.
Post workflow was capture HDV, transcode to DVCProHD 720p25 using Mpeg Streamclip. Edited in FCP

http://www.vimeo.com/901318

Next piece is a Boxing piece, shot in a studio when i was at Uni, with Anthony again. Again shot on the Z1 with no adapter. Same Post workflow. Edited in FCP and the compositing done in FCP.

Shot various boxing bits at a fast shutter, and some on a slow shutter then sped the slow shutter up speed stuff up to somewhere between 300% and 1000% and overlayed them to create the blurs.

This is just the first cut, need some tweaking, and will add some more slow motion into the mix to break up the pacing and have used the Skarda logo at the end for the time being (production house i work for), but dont know if this will stay yet.

I used my A1 on this project I had to do for my Advanced Video Production class. It's for a contest on this organization called The Christophers. The theme of the video is "One Person Can Make A Difference." We found this lady in Sanford who has created a giant following. Her name is Judy and she started her group "Pet Rescue by Judy" to save animals that are about to be put down in pounds and spays and neuters all of the animals.

Here is the high-def vimeo version. http://vimeo.com/929367

There is also a youtube version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mklF_GARTrc

We want as many views on the youtube account to get this video out there and get more people interested in her cause. She is one of the few decent people left in this country, and she needs all of the help she can get.
