View Full Version : Some help needed for my short
Ong Wan Shu May 8th, 2003, 03:12 AM hi all,
Need some help here. I am gonna make a short film which involves an struggling artist who needs to sniff glue to get away from her hard road to be an artist.
1) ANybody knows how a glue sniffer looks like when she is high?? I have seen examples of pple who takes heroin, marijuana, pot but just cant seem to find any picture, footage of any kind in the net of someone who sniffs glue
2) Also, my film requires some1 to be in the artist's room without her knowing about it. Either hiding under the bed or in the cupboard. Just wanna know how many of you guys here think this "trick" has been overused?
Thanks a lot!
Frank Granovski May 8th, 2003, 03:54 AM I don't think that would legal. Whether the person is high on drugs or "straight," isn't the issue. Shooting the individual without her permission (or her not knowing about it) will leave you open for litigation. In fact, if you get caught, you'll get arrested and charged.
George Brackett III May 8th, 2003, 05:01 AM Rent a copy of the film "Airplane" and watch Lloyd Bridges' character...
Rob Lohman May 8th, 2003, 05:41 AM I am assuming that no-one is going to actually sniff glue for your
movie right? That is a big no-no
K. Forman May 8th, 2003, 06:27 AM Is the person in her room malevolent? If not, maybe they could just see her through the window, maybe from an apartment across the street? That has possibilities of great shot composition.
Zac Stein May 8th, 2003, 06:54 AM In ferris bueler's day off, Grace sniff's whiteout, damn that is a funny scene.
Umm people who sniff glue react in a very similar manner to those who breath in spray paint vapors. It is an extreme distoriatation and head spin followed by a complete almost shutdown on any fine motor reflexes or actions. The person turns in a slow moving zombie, drooped and slow with eyes closing and very red. Well that is an extreme reaction.

Frank Granovski: The person I am shooting will be my actress. I just wanted pictures or film that shows how a glue sniffer looks like when he is high so i know how to do make up for my actress.
Rob Lohman: No one will be sniffing glue in my film, but the final effect should looks like she just did.
will try to look for "airplane" to watch somewhere but no sure if i can get it in singapore. let me know of any photos or footage that shows what a glue sniffer looks like when she is in the "trance" state.
Thanks!!!
Frank Granovski May 9th, 2003, 12:33 AM Good luck! Sorry I misunderstood what you meant.
Ken Tanaka May 9th, 2003, 02:04 AM Re: the glue-sniffer look, I think it depends on the specific chemicals in the glue. Some of the ethylene-based(I believe) glues can cause a flushed look as pulse and respiration are temporarily elevated. Others probably cause a very pale look as they depress blood pressure and respiration. I think your best bet may be to use a "sick", pale look with lips pale and eyes a bit red, with that 1,000 mile stare. That may most effectively convey the look you're seeking.
K. Forman May 9th, 2003, 05:34 AM Unless the audience regularly sniffs glue, I'm sure you could get away with just using a standard drunk/high look. Nobody will know for sure.
Ong Wan Shu May 9th, 2003, 06:42 AM ok thanks for all your advices, see if i m right on the following
"sick", pale look - no make up or foundation for the actress. she is quite fair.
lips pale - hhmmm...dun put any lipstick?
eyes a bit red - ok, i really not sure abt how to achieve this? rub salt into her eyes?
Thanks
K. Forman May 9th, 2003, 06:47 AM "eyes a bit red - ok, i really not sure abt how to achieve this? rub salt into her eyes?"
I would really hate to work for you! Ouch! Try just rubbing her eyes, no salt, and maybe smoke will help. Also, try a light sheen of water to mimic perspiration.
John Locke May 9th, 2003, 07:38 AM One word...onions.
K. Forman May 9th, 2003, 07:40 AM Just sniff the onions, do NOT apply to the eyes :)
Ong Wan Shu May 9th, 2003, 10:49 PM ahh....onions....how could i miss that.
Thanks!!!
