View Full Version : HV20: Blue streaky vertical lines in low light recordings

Just wondering if this is a natural thing to see in very low light recording, the faint blue lines going down the image, most prominent on the far right about an inch in.

(Levels brought up to show it better)

Catches your eye when watching it on the PC monitor but normal lighting seems fine.

I think it's just when the gain is at maxium, which only happens when the camera is in light that is far too low anyway. I noticed the same thing on mine - the streaks ranged from blue to red. I don't use this camera's footage in light that low.

I've seen the blue line myself. It's been mentioned quite a bit on other forums. As Robert said it's only visible in extremely low light situations when the gain is cranked up.

looks like banding noise: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/noise.htm

Also, Nice to see someone else with a messy desk :-)

Hmm, I thought only the HV10 suffered from this. Was the cam on 60i or 24p? (I would guess the first)

Not entirely sure, its a PAL one. Think it was 25p mode.

...well i can only hope you're wrong then ;).

others around here have suggested ways to improve low light quality and reduce noise, such as using 24p, higher shutters and lower gain.

(but as i've said before, for me that's all theory until 'my' hv20 arrives... good thing about that is that until that day arrives, i'll have time to keep my desk clean ;)

tnx
