How good is the mic input (sound quality) of the HV20?

pretty good. I don't hear much--if any--hum on audio output with my Sennheiser ME64 plugged in with an XLR to Mini converter.

here's a test clip i made to test the mic input coming from a mixer and shotgun mic

Thanks for posting the clip. Nice sound.

Did you use the mic attenuator because your AT835B has such strong output? I thought it just lowered all volume.

best,
elmer

i turn the mic att on because otherwise the signal is too hot coming out of the mixer to work, even with the gain on the hv20 turned way down. in that audio clip i recorded i had the mic just under clipping on the mixer which outputs +22dBu from the mains according to the manual. i'm assuming that's line level out.

Owen:

I don't know if this helps, but this test includes Sennheiser Me66 on camera, camera mic only, and ME66 mounted off camera. The ME66 goes through a Beachtek adapter:
