View Full Version : Integrating formats

There's one documentary project I have recently started where I produce and direct, and another I'm involved in several areas but not directing. To all of them I would like to bring a different approach which I would like to discuss here.

The basic camera in both is the Sony Z1, but I want to shoot with more than one camera and we can't really afford Z1s for all of them. So we need to find more affordable HD/HDV capable cameras, even if consumer types.

So I have been thinking of alternative options and how to integrate them. The idea is to look at the weak points in those other cameras and how to avoid them, making them invisible during editing.

1) Option 1: an HDV consumer camera, like the Sony HC5/HC7 or Canon HD10/HD20. These are already HDV, only using 1-CMOS.

2) Option 2: an internal HDD camera, like the JVC GZ-HD7, which is also 3-CCD like the Z1. But I am not sure how to convert it to an HD compatible with HDV on editing. BTW: I would be editing in Avid Xpress.

How far or easily will I get with any of these options and which may provide better final quality.
