still figuring what to put into my editing machine...

the issue now is graphics cards. i'm a little confused. how does less or more memory in graphics cards affect video editing software, such as vegas (for example)? is there a real reason to go for 64MB card? or 128MB? or will i be happy with a 32MB card such as the MATROX G550?

i have my specs down more or less, but i'm a little over budget. trying to figure how and what i should compromise in order cut expenses and losing minimum editing ability.

thanks.

Nope, the video card doesn't do much for video editing, it's all about the rest of the system...I'd still recommend to get a decent video card though...

Basically you don't need to concern yourself with this. The higher
memory models are targeted for storing textures etc. for games.

But! It also matters for which resolution you want to have for
your monitor. If you want to display a picture with 1600x1200
pixels at 32 bits you need at least 8 mb memory on the card
to be able to display this. Since most cards have at least 32 mb
these days you are more than safe!
