In log and capture FCP recognizes the camera and I can control some of the HC-7 functions like stop, start, fast forward, but cannot see the image or capture.

I have tried unplugging and replugging the firewire cable while the capture window is open, tried a new cable and plugged into alternative FW ports. I've experimented with the set up options but have yet to find a working combination.

G-4 Quicksilver, OSX 10.4.8, FCP 5.1.4

I'm not a Mac owner, but I have read on other "Mac-centric" forums about the HC7 and FCP.
It should work fine. Google "Sony HDR-HC7" and "FCP" and you should locate what you're looking for.

The title says it all. You have to make sure the Sony is in the right mode "HDV1080i, iLINK, etc..." It might take a few tries, but it works fine (at least for me).

The HC-7 works perfectly with my friend's 2.66 Woodcrest yet neither of my G4's (PowerBook and Quicksilver) can view the image (using exactly the same settings as the Woodcrest). Is there a specific component I might upgrade or tweak?? Can anyone help me here - PLEASE!


The official word from Sony is that the HC-7 video is NOT supported on Mac.

Regarding our conversation yesterday I checked the information with the engineer and this model can connect to MAC to download pictures from the memory stick using the supply software according also to the manual, but to download video we cannot guarantee that will be connecting to MAC it may not as that is not one of the specifications to this particular model.

Through a bunch of T&E and lots of coffee stumbled on the answer and hopefully someone can gain from my heartburn. I don't understand WHY this works and if anyone can explain, I'd love to hear it.

The MAC duo 2.66 Woodcrest controls the Sony HDR-HC7 via the HDV-1080i60 presets.

My older G4's can only access the HC7 using the DVCPRO HD-1080i60 presets.
