Hi All.
Before I start I wanted to mention that I find this to be one of the best run forums on the net. Certainly a great learning resource.

I just bought a SD 302 mixer and want to use my Fostex FR-2 as backup. A quick search turns up a Remote Audio cord for the 442.

It looks to me like it will do the job, only it's 12" OAL. A bit shorter than I like.
I tried a quick search of the forum but didn't turn anything up. Of course my wife tells me I'm finding impared.

I wonder if any of you might know of any available?

ouch. At that price I should learn to solder. Any idea how they are wired?

Might as well learn how to solder. If you can hold a pencil, you can solder. You can save lots of money by doing it yourself.

You can check with the other audio dealers as well, but generally these types of cables will be pretty short since the recorder and mixer are usually located close together. I often find that I overestimate how much cable I need. In addition to custom length cables, you could also look into adding an extension onto one end or the other.

Regarding how they are wired, check the owner's manuals. Sound Devices, at least, is really good about providing wiring info. And if it's not in the book, just call 'em up and ask.

There's a ton of ways to skin this cat.
For example, once you've got the output converted to XLR, just use an XLR patch cord.

It seems like it the cable couldn't be balanced, if it's only a 3-pin out. Maybe that's why it's so short?

From page 5 of the 302 manual:

Tape Out / Mix Out
Unbalanced Stereo TA3-type connector
Pin 1 = ground
Pin 2 = left
Pin 3 = right

I want to feed a fostex fr2 as backup. Would 18-24" be too long for an unbalaced cable?
