Terrible results as in short battery life or terrible results as in bad sound?

My DX8A will only last about 3-4 hours on a battery doing two mics with phantom voltage before the battery drops to around 8v. When it gets below 8v, I start getting distortion. When doing a continous shoot, I replace the battery on the third tape just to be sure.

That does seem short. Sure the battery was fresh to start with and that you used an long-life alkaline or lithium cell instead of a vanilla carbon battery? Is there an external power jack so you can rig up an external battery pack of some sort to power it so you can do a quick change between takes? (Don't know what you mean when you say you can't plug it into anything cause it only takes one battery.)

It was a new duracell battery. I just ran a test with another new Duracell battery and the preamp lasted for 80 minutes. The battery came out hot and dead.

I'll try a lithium 9 volt battery and see what the results are.

What I mean is it would be nice if I could just plug the preamp into the wall and not have to worry about batteries.

On the spec sheet it say the dxa-10 lasts for 4 hours without phantom power. It mentions nothing about the lasting time with phantom power.

Can you recommend a battery?

Well I used the Home Depot Energizer Lithium battery. It passed with flying colors and lasted 3 hrs with time to spare.

If I had only knew earlier.
