View Full Version : BP-2L14 doesn't fit as well as the HV20's included BP-2L13 battery....

I just received two BP-2L14 batteries, which were ordered
directly from Canon USA.

They have a slightly more rounded edges, which means
they don't fit as well as the BP-2L13 battery that came
with the HV20.

I called Canon back and was told they don't sell the
BP-2L13 batteries, at least not at the moment....

Does anybody know where I can buy genuine BP-2L13s?
Otherwise, I guess my only choice is to put some black
felt tape around the BP-2L14s to make them fit better.

Thanks!

P.S. here's a little useless info about these two batteries

Canon BP-2L13 1200mAh, made in China, came with HV20
Canon BP-2L14 1450mAh, made in Japan

the hv20 manual lists clearly "BP-2L13, BP-2L14, NB-2LH" as compatible batteries, I just have ordered 2 2L14 non-canon, lets see...

Yes, the BL-2L14 does indeed work fine as a battery
inside the HV20. I'm just saying that it doesn't fit very
well... Here's a photo of the two, so you can see what
I mean: :)

As long as I'm asking.... does anybody want to trade
their HV20's original BL-2L13 for my BL-2L14s?

Could you post an image showing the batteries inside of the HV20 battery slot?
I don't really see why the BP-2L14 wouldn't fit equally good...

I'm also planning to purchase that battery with the cam.

I have a generic 2L14 and it fits and works fine. I never did any testng to see if the fit is as good as the stock battery but it isn't loose so I don't see an issue. I can send you my original if you want to sned me your 2l14.

I really have to disagree with this post. I also have two 2L14s and I don't detect any rattle at all. The 2L14 is a little curved but it fits the contour of the viewfinder exactly so it actually "blends" better with the unit. In addition, the 2L14 has a bigger capacity than the 2L13.

I have the Canon BP-2L14 and i agree that it's not as snug a fit in the battery well. This seems typical for Canon and their extended batteries. But It doesn't really rattle much unless you push on it or start running. Unless you need to do stealth video (crawling in the bush after game? stalking other people in a paintball/airsoft field?) it's the price to pay for the extended run time.

I've got a HV20 and the stock SL13. It lasts okay for a "consumer" battery, but I need more - either more SL13's or a few SL14's as well...

How much longer does the SL14 last (with the LCD open when used)?

Leila....the alarmist, overreaction type posts are getting old.

The 3 BP-2L14 batteries I own fit just as well as the 2L13 that came with the cam.

This is not an issue my friends, please enjoy the HV20....

Me three. No problems. Don't know what the issue is....

Leila does seem to have her share of issues. I have no problems with either of my batteries.

I definitely notice more camera rattle with my Canon BP-2L14 than with the stock BP-2L13. Is it a major problem? No. Is it annoying? Yes. I just makes the whole assembly feel cheap.

I stuck a small piece of felt on the top of the battery and it fixed it right up.

My Stock HV20 battery has a bit of play and isn't a tight fit. I like the suggestion of a small felt pad to try and tighten it up, or at least dampen the movement. I have a few of the Lenmar batteries coming and will see how they fit.
