Hi,

I need a tripod for the JVC GY-HD100U. I don't want to buy new due to the expense. Can someone give me some advice on where to buy from and which model works best?

Thank you Lisa

Hello Lisa:

I Just bought a bogen 351MVB2 KIT it includes a bogen 503 head, a mid level spreader and case including shipping for $538.00. The unit is spouse to be ok for the

Hello Lisa,

Bob Jones here from Nightshift Enterprises, home of the Skycrane.

If your looking for a ROCK SOLID tripod, take a hard look at the "Bogen 3051"
It's the tripod I recommend to support my jibs.

The 3051 is an extremely robust tripod and it's not what you'd describe as a light weight.

You can often find them on Ebay for a fraction of the retail price. I believe retail is around $240.00 to $275.00

Hope this info helps.

Cheers
Bob Jones

I cut it twice and it's still to short...

Hi Joe,

Yes please do let me now how it works out for you. Remind me, you're in south FL area, right? I'm about 30 minutes from Daytona myself.

Hi Robert,

Thank you also for the tip. I'll look into it. I have a Bogen 3043 legs that worked great for other camera I have but not the right head for the hd100u.

Thanks again for the tips,
Lisa

I was going to a fishing seminar one day at a Southern Florida school and noticed a swapmeet going on on the same property. I was early, so I went over.

I stumbled upon a Bogen 3030a with an head for $35.00. These are great tripods and will handle whatever camera you have. Rock Solid!

I then bought an additional Bogen tripod, different model, from B&H new. Even though it was a new model and a Bogen at that, it was terrible and I sold it.

I spent about 2 months trying to find and buy another 3030a on ebay and finally did. I think it cost me about $150.

If you can find one, you will love it.

Mike

Hello Joe, Lisa,

Joe, the Bogen "475" is very similiar to the "3051". The difference is the "3051" has internal locks that can be released by (for lack of a better term) "thumb buttons" at the head of the tripod.

I believe the "475" incorperates twist locks. They're both great tripods for supporting heavy loads. I also believe they are way underrated in terms of weight capacity.

Sorry for the mixup, I have Bogen legs 3021. Debating whether to change heads or get another whole set-up.

Thanks again for the tips. I certainly want to make sure that I get the right one with the support. Reading the information all of you are providing is a great help.

I was considering a 501 head and the 503 and debating on getting another complete tripod. I'll check around on the models everyone is telling me about and see what I can find for sale.

Thank you
Lisa

Hi Joe,

I'm not that familiar with the 503. I heard from someone that uses it and for what they were using it for it worked great.

So far I am very happy with the hd100u. Picture is amazing!

I'm north of Daytona.

Nice to hear from you.

Lisa,

Don't get the 501 head, get at least the 503. They are a world apart in performance and the 503 has counter balance springs. You need them for the larger cameras.

Good luck and I'm in between you two here in Post St. Lucie.

Hi,

I've had several people say they would go with the 503 head. Which legs are you using with it?

I have to say I love the legs on the ITE tripod I have even though it's older and heavy. It's so sturdy. It was given to me but I don't have a plate for it and not even sure where to locate a plate for it and if the plate will work with the hd100u.

Also, it's nice to meet up with you FL people.

Thanks again to everyone that's helping me with info.

Best,
Lisa
