Hi guys. My A1 have a blue dot in middle of the lens. I cleaned it several times with two different cleaners but can't get off. If i face toward bright area, i see it more and if i change the angle it disapear. Anybody got any idea what this could blue dot mean. Do i need to return the camera? THx

if it actually on the lense..its a chip.
if its only visible on the screen, thats a dead pixle.
return it either way.

It is only on the screen. So what is dead pixel? And what causes them? This sucks i was looking for smooth start!

Is it on the LCD, viewfinder, or analog/digital or ouput from tape to a external monitor.

record something and play it back on a tv.
if you see the spot on the tv from the source tape,
thats very bad.

if it's only on the lcd of the cam, the lcd has a dead pixel.
not as bad. my gl2 just got one, i deal with it.

a new cam shouldnt ship with a dead pixel.

the screen is made up of dots. each dot is a pixel.
that pixel can't display anything so it just lights up.
sometimes blue, green, white..eventually, it will go grey.

There typically is a QA standard for LCD panels/screens that specified how many bad pixels can be present, and how close to each other they can be, and stil pass acceptance tests. While the number allowed depends on the technology, size, and mainly the price of the screen (assured perfect screens are expensive), for consumer/prosumer gear and laptop PCs it typicaly is on the order of a handfull and long as they are not clustered close together.

On page 153 of the English/NTSC manual (end of the Troubleshooting section) it lists the standad as 0.01%

indeed. i've been shipped a few large lcd screens with a dead pixel..and even a laptop. however, my urgent needs for the gear typically outweigh the hassle of sending it back. they are usually off to the edge.

however, even a single dead pixel on the A1 lcd is unacceptable.
send it back and get a new one.

at best, its the lcd. he could have one on the ccd.
it's just not worth keeping it.
