New version of HDVsplit is out. It should support Canon A1.

I just tested this out with XH-A1 footage shot for a wedding yesterday and it works 100% perfect as it did when I used v.75 for my Sony HDV footage.

So I have noticed something really strange. When I capture a clip using HDVSplit, Vegas has a *much* tougher time previewing it than when I capture the same clip using Vegas 7.0d's HDV capture utility.

I have noticed that HDVsplit has a cleaner clip creation in that unlike Vegas it doesn't append a frame or two from the clip that follows. Does that have anything to do with it?

Captures your tape into m2t files on your computer, splitting them if you choose at scene changes. From there you can use something like MPEG Streamclip to convert to files to be edited.

Why would you want to capture and convert the files? Why not just capture and edit right away? In other words, what is the advantage of going this route over simply importing the footage and working with it right away?

regarding vegas.. i'm having fantastic results with ConnectHD, importing both Cineform AVI and m2t files. i didn't really like the sony hdv capture. for sd it is the best.

I can edit m2t files pretty well on my machine provided I dont add too many layers or effects. The avi is a bit smoother.

You can also just use it to preview footage direct from your Cam.

Run on a laptop you can connect via firewire and control cam from HDVsplit. Just check the preview box and you can see full screen preview, without capturing.

Though I've been using HDVsplit for quite a while this preview feature was news to me. It works great, in terms of definition I find the preview screen image much better than that using Canon Console software.
