I recently used Sony's PDW F350L XDCAM HD for a four month, remote field shoot in Antarctica. I was very impressed with the camera and have posted a Blog as reference for anybody else considering the system for remote work in harsh conditions. Cheers, Wade.

Wade, that's an awesome story/page. As a 350 owner, I'd never guess the camera would make it through that. I'm sure there's some amount of luck involved in circumstances like that, but it's good to know at least the camera is not out of it's league in those conditions.

I assume you had your lens either re-lubed or degreased before the job. Did anybody ever suggest something similar for the camera?

Neither the 350 nor the Fujinon lens had any winterisation. The lens presented no 'stiffness'. Temps ranged from 0 - 15 Celcius.

Amazing story Wade, and an amazing accomplishment.

Having worked in very stressful environmental conditions I think I understand what you had to endure just to function much less create beautiful images.

The performance of the XDCAM and the Fujinon is nothing less than stellar and is a great testiment to the manufacturers.

My hats off to you for pushing the envelope and sharing your work with us.

Great blog! I noticed from your other blog that you shot for Planet Earth. I'd be really interested to know more about the whole thing, the series is the best I've ever seen (and I'm not just saying that!).
