View Full Version : which filmlook seems best?
Paul Watkins February 27th, 2007, 08:54 PM A captured some sample video of basically nothing. I want to know which color variation do you think looks the most filmlike. This is the canon A1 with and without magic bullet looks. Also, these looks are observed with and without 55mm amber filter.
presets include (preset 18) panavision and a custom technocolor preset im working on.

Jeff Nelson March 3rd, 2007, 10:37 PM Hey Paul: Where is the 55 mm amber filter from?
Paul Watkins March 4th, 2007, 12:51 AM after effects plugin by dgital film tools "55mm"
Paul Watkins April 3rd, 2007, 07:07 PM here are some stills of the canon A1 with the letus fe. They were taken with the panavision preset then CC with MB sharp look with gamma at -8 and contrast at +4. I'm working on the best film look for me, what do you think?
Lino Miniello April 4th, 2007, 12:45 AM Hi Paul, thanks for stills. Please, could you post your preset19 with excel? thanks.
Paul Watkins April 8th, 2007, 11:48 AM I added my preset 19 to this excel file. Hope it's useful.
Jeff Nelson April 8th, 2007, 12:35 PM Thanks, Paul. That is useful. Which amber filter from 55 were you using? I'm seeing they have a number of different ones in the 55mm filter set. Thanks.
Paul Watkins April 8th, 2007, 02:39 PM 55mm Gels:pale amber gold
Jeff Nelson April 8th, 2007, 08:18 PM thanks much.

Dale Guthormsen April 17th, 2007, 11:06 AM I looked at your stills. I like the overall look. The outdoor color was just how I like to set my xl2. I have never used the amber filter. So, I am curious what you feel that gives to your footage. I tried to upload you clips but couldn't find where to find the down load on the page that came up.
definitely a nice look
Trish Kerr April 17th, 2007, 01:01 PM I like the amber filter color corrected on all parts except that first scene with the house/shrub/van looked a bit too amber washed. (almost like old footage) So the normal color corrected in that segment looked best. And the technocolor amber filter color corrected in the last segment was a bit saturated. But it depends on how vivid you want things to be.
The panavision uncorrected paled out compared to the technocolor across the board in the video. But on your stills, the panavision color corrected looked good and had a nice film feel.
You'd need to test skin tones and more shots with sky and ground with the amber filter to be sure. In the video all the shots are reddish in nature so it's hard to gauge what the amber filter would do on all colors, especially blues and greens.
