JVC posted new firmware for the HD50. It's available from the "software download" link on the BR-HD50 product page.

From JVC's Website:

"v1-08 Improvements:

Compatibility with Non-HDCP compliant HDMI devices, automatically switching HDCP off when connected via HDMI to a Non-HDCP compliant device.

Benefits
Allows interoperability with Non-HDCP compliant HDMI devices such as: Convergent Design's M1 and also Black Magic's BMD Promise Card. Additionally you can now connect your BR-HD50U to Displays such as computer monitors."

It has recently come to light that a firmware upgrade to the Blackmagic card may be required as well. The instructions page now has a note about this. http://pro.jvc.com/pro/attributes/HDTV/soft/hd50_upgrade/v1-08_upgrade.html

Please contact the manufacture of the card to get the latest formware.

What else does the firmware upgrade do?

Is HDCP updates all?

Does it fix the PAL DV playback option that doesn't work on my deck?

Mark,

Here's what 1.08 does:

"Compatibility with Non-HDCP compliant HDMI devices, automatically switching HDCP off when connected via HDMI to a Non-HDCP compliant device."

Benefits:

Allows interoperability with Non-HDCP compliant HDMI devices such as: Convergent Design's M1 and also Black Magic's Intensity Card (firmware upgrade may be required).

Additionally you can now connect your BR-HD50U to Displays such as computer monitors.
