I currently have a 501 head c/w a quick release plate on my PD150. Can this plate be removed from the PD150 and fitted to a Canon XH-A1 for use on the 501 head?

Yes the plate neither knows nor cares what camera it is on.

I'll make do with my 501/525 setup this weekend, then look at buying a Sachtler DV-6 system thereafter to help ensure smoooooth pans and tilts.
