I found these babies on sale in the Philips Outlet....and I think putting one in a Pelican case would make a nice little low-budget monitoring solutions for the Canon XH-A1. I'm really only using it for framing, and perhaps some focusing.

Would there be any problems in using this as a low-fi field monitor?

Actually, these TV will display a 16:9 letter box. I have a small maganox like that, and I think I had to go into TV menu to set it.

The same company makes a 17" that is a higher res and has built in dvd player and is 16X9. Also it has an AC adapter that converts wall 120/220v AC into 12V DC which means that you can wire up your own anton bauer or IDX v mount adapter plate to the back and power it off of 12 DC.

When that display is letterboxed you will be below 720 lines and no longer in the HD realm. Also the brightness and contrast is rather low versus what you can get for others. I would suggest a 17" 16:9 set with component in if you are planning to shoot 16:9 HD.
