Paolo, LED screen and LED backlight for LCD panel not the same :)
Phlatlight LED's also used in few models of Samsung DLP RPTV.

It is amazing, I thought they were coming out with these things years ago. I wonder how LCD life will go with a hot led behind it.

Wayne, you're right. Some LED-backlighted models have existed for years. I've read that LED backlighted LCDs last longer, as well as providing more consistent color performance though poor response time. Thus, thus found a home in color proofing instead of video.

Even Sony’s deep-color HD LCD screens are going to use LED-back-lit but their going to be a bit pricy.
