I use Premiere Pro 2.0 to edit. When I am done with a project, how can I save it to an external hard drive to be pulled back in at a later date if needed? I saved the project to the external hard drive. Then I deleted the files from the main drive. Then I tried pulling the file from the external drive back in, but it didn't work. It said "files offline". Not sure if that was because I deleted clips that were used in the project??? Any help will be appreciated.

I just started doing weddings and am going to need the disk space to edit.... Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Or is there another way I should be saving projects externally?

As long as you copy your original acquisition files to trhe HD also you'll have no problem...
The reason that Premiere is telling you the files are off line is because the original project still sees them on you PC hard drive and not the external...

Just click on the icon of th emissing file, right click and drop down to 'Link Media', go to the file on your external Hard drive and select it....

You'll now be able to edit your project.

If you only saved the project file to the external drive and deleted all of the footage files without copying them to the external drive as well, I'm afraid you are SOL my friend.

In the future, create a folder on your media drive (Smith Wedding Folder, for example), capture all of the footage to that, copy any audio you are using into that folder, any graphics, stills, etc. Basically EVERYTHING that is being used in the project needs to be in that folder. When you are done with the project and ready to archive, copy that entire folder over onto the external drive.

If you need to edit something in the future you can probably do it right from the external drive. I bring a lot of projects between home and work on external drive and work right from that drive with no problems.

You can also use the project manager feature to copy all the files, even trimmed to save space, to your external drive once you've completed it.

Thanks for all the info. I will create a folder from the get go when I capture and make sure everything is in there and save to the external drive. Great!
