Yesterday i looked the new Miami Vice. Well, i liked it, even if some of the sequences looked a bit videoish; and some others had too much grain imho (the car night sequences).

However, there are some spectacular shot of the sky, daylight ones but also night ones. Anyone know how they achieved those results? Sure they used filters; but i remember reading a few years ago (about Collateral) that the Viper camera can capture things that the human eye don't; at first i was thinking that this was bulls**t...

Anyway do you think that with an XL2 can we make something similar? Especially talking about the day scenes.

I did a video, which I will post soon, that had great looking skies... most the time you see that, as it is in my case, they are fake...

There was a spread about Miami Vice in last August's issue of American Cinematographer. If you can track it down, you might find something useful.

Too bad. I subscribed to the ASC magazine a month ago. Any online articles?

Unfortunately not from that magazine. This was in one of the trade magazines I get: http://digitalcontentproducer.com/hdhdv/depth/video_digital_vision/index.html. I bet it's not nearly as good as the American Cinematographer article, but it's a start.

they shot alot of it at 1/24th I think that supplied to alot of the look and they lit the scenes very cool. It was alot of lighting for the first time I have seen in a while the DP wasnt afraid of the dark.
