It's not on Netflix or Amazon. Was hoping someone in Japan could provide some feedback before I spend the money on an overseas purchase... also looking for similar titles in that genre. Thanks in advance,
View Full Version : Has anyone seen "Otoko-tachi no Yamato" Chris Hurd February 2nd, 2007, 09:03 PM It's not on Netflix or Amazon. Was hoping someone in Japan could provide some feedback before I spend the money on an overseas purchase... also looking for similar titles in that genre. Thanks in advance, Marcus Marchesseault February 3rd, 2007, 02:50 PM I saw it at the Hawaii International Film Festival. I'm glad I went to see it, but I have one or two serious criticisms. Primarily, it needs to be edited down. There is too much seemingly re-used footage and too many moments the director wants the audience to have time to cry and wipe their eyes. Otherwise, it is well done and gives a different, and surprising, view of the events in the Pacific during WWII. It helps me understand why there are so many Japanese tourists here visiting the Arizona. The Japanese perspective, assuming this movie explains one of it's facets, of WWII is not what many people assume. Chris Hurd February 5th, 2007, 08:19 AM Thanks, Marcus... I've just read John Toland's "The Rising Sun" and was thoroughly engaged by it, and have therefore begun a quest for this particular genre. So far I have seen only parts of Nobi (Fires on the Plain) from 1959... looking for that one on DVD as well. |
