I didnt want to threadjack one of Michele's recent posts ("Shooting a metal band concert") but something in the post confused me. Michele says at the end that 50i will be the preferred mode and the shutter speed between 1/50-1/25. My question is, in what instances would you want a shutter speed that is below your shooting mode? I usually shoot 60i, and when I go to, let's say, 1/30 it becomes poor quality, has a "strobe" effect, and is blurry. Is it a creative choice? Which is fine...I'm just trying to understand. And this is in no way anything against Michele.

Hi Jonathon. I have used 1/25s for 2 different reasons. One is to get the motion blur effect deliberately (but I wouldn't describe it as stroby), the other is when there is just not enough light to get good exposure otherwise, even with gain cranked up.

Wedding videographers do this to either add action/excitment to the wedding dance, or help provide sufficient lighting to avoid the grainy problem, or both.
