Recently found file with extension *.ts. Logically thinking I understood these two letters as Transport Stream. But players and Premiere Pro don't recognize these file properly. I could watch this file only after processing in ProCoder. Does anyone know about such files and how to use them properly?

They are MPEG2 files. Some applications will recognize them if you change the extension from .ts to .mpg or .mpeg, others won't.

Use MPEG Streamclip (freeware) to convert to QT, DV, or MPEG or whatever you need.

To import in Premiere Pro just rename them to *.m2t

... and for playback, use the VLC player at www.videolan.org.

And, FYI, HDV is officially compressed via mpeg2-ts, which is different in some ways from DVD compression of mpeg2, as the ts is "transport stream."
