Someone who is unable to post this himself has given me permission to post these links. None of this is my footage and it wasn't shot by me. Cameras pretty much in factory default @ 0dB gain.
Be warned, these are large m2t files.
Now here's the rub, not all of these clips are from the V1U, some are from a Z1. This should achieve one purpose at least. If you see the same problem in all of the clips it's a good bet the problem is either in your eyesight, your gear or it's just something native to all HDV cameras and you're expecting too much from them. If you see no problems in any of them then I'd say the V1U is doing pretty well.
This is a real double blind test (I hope), I don't know which is which, they're not of the same scene so minute details will not give the game away either. I have no idea how long the benefactor will be able to provide the bandwidth, please use it judiciously.

I am downloading now and didn't watch them all carefully yet, but how can this be "blind" if Vegas reports which is progressive (022,025), and which interlaced (007,012)?

I'm going to hazard a wild guess that 025, 022, and 007 are the V1U clips based on seeing purple Chromatic Aberration in the highlights. They also look sharper then the others.

But that's strange as the V1 and the Z1 always output interlaced streams. The progressive modes are output in PsF format (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_segmented_Frame).

Have the clips already been taken down? I couldn't get to them.

You're right it's strange, as even the true progressive of the V1 is written in segments - but nevertheless, it spoils the test as it's not "blind" anymore...

It is written as fields but I am pretty sure the 30p footage has the progressive flags set and Vegas knows how to read those flags. It is just like how a 24p DVD has progressive flags and a DVD player will output progressive because of those flags even though the video is encoded interlaced.

You're right that Vegas can read those flags; not all NLE's or players can, though.

Yanked by accident. I'll have them back up hopefully tonight with a couple others.

here they are

again, some can tell what are Z1 and what are V1 by the clip info in Sony Vegas.

I've put some clips next to Z1 clips and can tell a difference in the image. They are not side by side (shooting-wise) comparisons but I feel there is noticible difference the images. I think the V1 can be dialed in to be very, very close to the Z1 but what I'm seeing, even at sharpness of 2 which a couple of these were shot at, there is some inherent noise in the images where I don't believe there would have been with the Z1. I think highlights tend to "pop" a bit more with the V1 but then again, possibly correctable.

thoughts?
