What are the best mid level mics in the range of about 500-1300

you can check the akg uls 480+63 , audix sxi with hyper cardioid ,

you also find some nice mics on ebay for more less then it cost as mkh -50,60, 416
neumann 81 ( a friend picked up on german ebay last week for less then 700us)
neuman ak150

the best is combination of hyper and shotgun of some sort as every one has it benefits working interers or extiriors
the only mic that could give you some good compromise is sanken cs-3 e which is a shotgun but works quit well indoors , or mkh 50 which can work outside as well for its very sharp hyper cardioid pick up pattern
