Hello All,

Sorry this is probably really simple stuff but I don't know the answer - Just a beginner so I need some help!!

We shot our footage on the JVC GY-HD100 730/24 and since then we have done our offline edit on FCP. So far so good!

Now what??
I think that we would normally go to our online edit with an EDL but we are pretty sure that there is no way we will be able use the original tapes because the timecodes make no sense anymore. So, am I right in thinking we need to dump down onto video (HDcam? or HDV again) any advice?

I am confused as to the what we need to do next........ dubbing mix and need to grade - am I missing anythign and is there a system that works best?

As you can probably guess - I really know nothing about this next stage, I am learning as I go, so please please please - any advice would be so helpful!

You're right about your TC problems. You will most likely have issues if you try to take your EDL and camera tapes to an Avid.

If you edited native HDV, 720p/24 in Final Cut at full res, then I'd suggest you do away with your previous methods entirely, and do your output from your FCP project on an FCP rig setup for onlining.

In other words, find a post house with a current FCP rig and a Kona2 or 3, and the correct deck with whatever format you're going to, and do it there. Also, find an online editor familiar with onlining in FCP so you'll be within whatever bcast specs you need to be in.

Trying to go the EDL/Avid route when you most likely (if I understand you correctly), already have your offline at highest res will only cost you thousands of dollars more than it should. Make sense?

These days, the old methods of offlining/onlining are starting to make less and less sense, if you really know what's going on technically.

So you can output directly from FCP to HDCAM with a FCP/Kona rig, and then go to your tape-to-tape grade from there. Not sure what you mean specifically by dubbing mix, but you can export a OMF from your offline timeline for your audio post as well.
