View Full Version : The Shark Tank of Shame...!
Meryem Ersoz January 22nd, 2007, 10:21 AM with apologies to sharks everywhere, who do a wonderful job of keeping the ocean population healthy....and thanks to mike teutsch, who suggested the name....
okay lads and lassies who are planning to miss the deadline, here is the place to hang your name.
Dylan Couper January 22nd, 2007, 06:05 PM I want the first spot!
I had a great concept too, dangit.
Jeff Kilgroe January 23rd, 2007, 11:06 AM You may have first spot on this list, but my concept was better! :P
...In fact, I like my concept enough I'm probably going to go through and finish it anyway. Maybe it will work for the next UWOL challenge?
Bruce Foreman January 23rd, 2007, 02:30 PM Jeff,
At least post a link to it so we can see it. More than half of the fun is seeing what others do with these challenges.
Bruce Foreman
Fernando Ballesteros January 25th, 2007, 03:59 AM I'm in...
I've been so busy this days that i haven't a single shot for the challenge, but i know its all my fault. As a mountain man i would be more confortable in a wolf cage or a bear den, but I'm here, swiming in the tank with this kind and nice little shark...
Hope next time i will be out of the tank
Thank for all your work,
Fernando
James Huenergardt January 25th, 2007, 07:56 AM I should have known better... I didn't make an entry for DVC7 either.
Things are slowing down a bit, so maybe next time.
Jim
Jeff Kilgroe January 25th, 2007, 12:25 PM Jeff,
At least post a link to it so we can see it. More than half of the fun is seeing what others do with these challenges.
I'm going to save the idea for the next UWOL challenge... I think it could work with a wide variety of themes. :)
David Elkins January 26th, 2007, 02:37 PM My apologies for flaking. It has been a great start to the year for work, but unfortunately not for personal projects. I am deathly afraid of sharks so I better get my act together for UWOL #2! By the way everything I have seen over on the UWOL website looks great. Very impressive from y'all.
David
Meryem Ersoz February 6th, 2007, 05:38 PM kersplash...i gave myself til monday to finish mine. unresolvable technical difficulties. dang it. next time!
i've finished every DV Challenge i signed on for, met every personal deadline, met every biz deadline, and now this...shameful!
Mike Teutsch February 6th, 2007, 06:11 PM Had a killer idea, and just messed up with the schedule and then when at last I had the time got dragged into other things. I'm always helping others. Then there's the rain. With three weeks to do it------there is no real excuse!
The idea will be something I can use in a later movie, so watch out!
But, for now I'm swimming with the sharks, I'm bleeding and running low on air!
Mike
Lisa Shofner February 28th, 2007, 12:50 PM Ungh. I guess I'll have to swim.
Here's the deal. I did the film. However, I couldn't get it cut down to 3 mins without losing the whole basis/original idea. So I didn't post it.
Next challenge, I have some new ideas and will definitely post my footage.
Meryem Ersoz March 1st, 2007, 08:40 AM bold move, lisa! it's never too late to swim with the sharks!
Joey Atilano March 5th, 2007, 12:16 PM I tried doing a timelapse of some storms but after waiting till the last I minute I had the settings wrong and blew it.
Cody Lucido March 16th, 2007, 10:01 AM Well,
Add me to the list of shark bait. I was truly inspired by 'The Living Skies', but 'Recreation' just didn't inspire me at all.
Sorry.
I'll try again next time.
Gabriel Yeager March 16th, 2007, 10:41 AM Forget the Scuba gear, I might just jump in!
Everything has just been going down hill, from lack of editing programs to horrible weather.
I hope the water is warm!
~Gabriel
Kevin Railsback March 16th, 2007, 02:35 PM I've still only shot one shot so far but I'm trying to get it all shot tomorrow if I can.
Per Johan Naesje March 16th, 2007, 02:59 PM Cody and Gabriel, it's too early to jump into the tank! It's plenty of time left to get the footage ready.
Remember this challenge is for fun and something where we learn a lot from each other. The theme is very wide and you can find some of interests in your backyard!
Chris Barcellos March 16th, 2007, 03:05 PM Forget the Scuba gear, I might just jump in!

Avid Free is a free DV editing program. Google it.
Gabriel Yeager March 16th, 2007, 04:07 PM Yes, I know it is to early. However, when you are in a place like me, its hard to get anything on tape, let alone learn something from it. The only things I would be doing is putting my camera on a tripod, hit the record button, and go running/biking around like there is no tomorrow.
At this point in the game, I am afraid I can't do it due to stress overload if I tried. When I compared the amount of gain to the negative, the negative won big time.
Thank Chris, that looks like what I was looking for. Thank you so much for telling me about that!
~Gabriel
Ken Diewert March 17th, 2007, 11:15 AM Come on Gabriel,
Don't you remember your old sig line....
... if an 18-year-old kid came to me with that kind of initiative, I'd hire him on the spot.
It took me all of 4 hours to consider, shoot and cut a 3-minute piece. Admittedly it's not my best work, but I don't mind. It doesn't have to be great. Woody Allen once said that 75% of success was just showing up on time.
If we, with multiple sick kids, mortgages, bills, and little if any spare time can manage it, an 18-year-old with initiative sure can.
Put down the lightsaber and the doritos, and pick-up your camera. Think of "recreation". I was actually considering doing a piece on my son and his friends playing video games. Heck, stamp collecting, knitting and taking a walk are recreation.
I've been following your career since you came on the board and would be dissapointed to see you bail out. Even if you miss the deadline, you should still complete the project.
Gabriel Yeager March 17th, 2007, 11:28 AM Wow.... Now the pressure is really on, lol! I do still have tomorrow....
What time is the deadline?
Hmmmm. Today is packed with family stuff, so I do not think I could shoot today... Maybe, I can find some time tomorrow to throw something together...
I think I might be back in this.
Thanks Ken.
~Gabriel
Meryem Ersoz March 17th, 2007, 11:46 AM put down the doritos and lightsaber, har. that's a good one.
even if all you did was drive around on your bike like a madman, i bet you'd learn something, especially if you figured out how to do that and also get stable footage. that would be an accomplishment.
when i run out of time for the DV Challenge, i always try to make it an opportunity to learn something i didn't know before about my camera...to try a new feature or menu item that i've never turned on before. i don't do my best work for the DV Challenge--ever! but i always learn something that i haven't had time to try before.
Jeff Kilgroe March 17th, 2007, 10:04 PM Well, I posted a few days back that I was withdrawing (in the tales of wonder/woe thread). So I'm jumping in and swimming now. Rather frustrating really, because I actually shot about 45 minutes worth of video and some of it was pretty good. But I don't have much that fits with the theme or my ideas that I had and no time to edit it into something. Or at least not by monday.
Oh well, maybe next time....
Kevin Railsback March 17th, 2007, 10:09 PM Bummer Jeff!
I shot all day today. Still don't know if I have something but I'm going to work all day tomorrow at editing and see what I come up with.
Brian McKay March 18th, 2007, 08:30 AM Well guys I'm down to it. Between the pay check job, the weather and travel I'm just about out of time and luck.
I have the first minute completed (indoors) but need the remainder.....if I can convince a few people to brave the cold temperatures I may and I say may get the film in on time.
Not easy to convince even the best of friends to go out on SkiDoos at -37C.
Wish me luck....I'm going to need it.
Brian
Jeff Kilgroe March 19th, 2007, 03:37 PM I shot all day today. Still don't know if I have something but I'm going to work all day tomorrow at editing and see what I come up with.
It's been a long time since I could say "I shot all day". ;) Anyway, I just took graphic design job doing some 3D product mock-up renders and it's going to keep me busy this week. And no sooner did I accept the job do I get notice of the deadline extension. Ha! ...Figures. Anyway, I'll see what I can come up with. I may not be out just yet, but it doesn't look good.
Jeff Kilgroe March 19th, 2007, 03:39 PM Not easy to convince even the best of friends to go out on SkiDoos at -37C.
Ooooh, that sounds like fun. Hehe.
Brian McKay March 20th, 2007, 07:36 AM He dodges right....jumps to the left, the crowd cheers fore once again McKay avoids the Shark Tank of Shame.
Uploaded my film at 4:30 ish this morning.
Brian
Meryem Ersoz March 20th, 2007, 07:40 AM and you're concerned about *my* mental health, brian?? heh. heheh.
aaa-hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Brian McKay March 20th, 2007, 07:51 AM Hahahahah.....but I have an excuse I didn't go to bed yet LOL. Not to worry Meryem if when looking for my mind I should stumble across yours I'll email it to ya.....promise.
Brian
Jeff Kilgroe March 20th, 2007, 02:51 PM I feel like I'm skinny dipping in the shark tank now... 2 challenges, 2 shark tank swims. I left early this morning to shoot a few things. No luck... Will try some more this afternoon, but I'm busy all day tomorrow and have no time to edit anything by the new extended deadline.
So here I come, sharks...
Kelly Harmsworth March 21st, 2007, 11:26 AM I'm out!
Maybe next time :-(
Jeffrey Butler March 21st, 2007, 11:54 AM Did I miss another deadline?
Kevin Railsback March 21st, 2007, 02:28 PM Ya got till tomorrow!
Ken Diewert March 21st, 2007, 05:47 PM I'm out!
Maybe next time :-(
Out! Out!
You mean IN... As in, 'in the shark tank. And not just any shark tank... the Shark Tank of Shame!
