Me and a friend are getting some equipment from a local cable access station and I thought it would be cool to do a piece like a 70's art film. I was wondering if anybody had any good ideas of how to get strange looking shots in camera or other wise. I'm looking to get high contrast, strange saturation. I'm gonna do some timelapse too. Any examples that you could post would be extremely helpful too.

you might try shooting on 8mm film, its quite cheap if you compare to other film formats...

The movie "The Doors" had some great timelapses in it. Take a look at that If you want some ideas for timelapses from that time period.

It would help to know what exactly "some equipment" means.

It is some kind of cheap minidv camera. I think its a panasonic shoulder cam, maybe a dvc7? Zeroe image control, crappy lens, poor resolution, that kind of stuff. We're talking cable access here after all.

I was more wondering if anybody had any cool ideas for experimental shots. What would slow shutter timelapse look like for instance?

I'll have a crappy tripod and a tota-brella as well. Thanks for the comments though, I'll have to check out the doors movie, sounds interesting.
